Do you have a pic of the logo? Hard to help you identify it without being able to see it. You can use a free image hosting site such as photobucket or similar.
Older Toyota emblems were just TOYOTA, they did not adopt the current emblem until much later.
Fun Fact: Quote taken from CAR magazine years ago - "The current Toyota symbol that looks like a cowboy in a big hat, but is actually three elipses depicting the heart of the customer, the heart of the product, and the ever-expanding technological advancements and boundless opportunities that lie ahead."
