Starting trouble
May 26, 2009
Back with another problem on my 98 Corolla

Engine has a starting problem. When i crank nothing seems to happen, dont hear any noise ( may be its too faint for me to hear it), but after 4-5 tries it starts right up. This has been going on for a while, but the frequency has increased of late. Got the battery checked, found out that was not the issue. Have heard that it could be the starter. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance....

Common problem areas are the starter contacts are either heavily corroded or loose. Or the lead wire running to the starter from the battery is damaged. Could also be the starter relay or ignition switch - but I would look at the battery terminal (make sure they are good and clean, terminals are on tight), contacts on the starter would be next.
