Hi,
a newbie question (from Ireland) if you dont mind --- reading around the topic indicates that there is no cabin air filter in the 1998 Corolla. The problem is that despite the fan setting, no air is coming into the cabin though I can here the fan blower motor running. I would like to check the air intake ducting for debris but dont know where it is. Could someone tell me where to go looking please?

AFAIK thats true, they were a new thing at that time. Its also possible one of the vent doors is improperly closed; did you check all the vents, rather than just the ones that are supposed to be active?

Hi, I got a Hayne's manual for the car (for 1997-2002 Corollas) and there is a pollen filter in it. The filter is housed vertically directly under the blower. Access to the filter is from under the glovebox (no need to open or remove the glovebox) -- 4 circular headed push clips need to be removed and the 3 fold filter can be pulled out.

A huge amount of dirt was held in there -- an immediate improvement to the air flow was had just by removing the larger debris.

Interesting - good to know that particular generation of Corolla in your region had a pollen filter.

Here in the North American market - they didnt run pollen filters until the 2003 model year, 9th generation Corolla. Those models, the pollen filter sits horizontally over the top of the blower (air pulled down through the filter). Same deal - two spring clips on the side, right behind the glovebox opening.
