The Detrroit News has reported that Toyota Motor Company has issued a recall of 533,000 trucks and SUVs over possible steering and suspension probelmems. This new recall came one week after a settlement regarding the recalls of as many as 4 million vehicles related to sludge build-up in the engine.

The most recent recall includes certain 2004-2007 model year Sequoia full-size sport and utility vehicles and 2004-2006 Tundra Pick-ups sold in the United States. A ball joint in the fron suspension may be wearing excessively, causing undue noise and makeing the vehicles diffilut to steer. Spokesman for Toyota Bill Kwong stated that the defect may be the cause of 11 accidents resulting in six injuries.

Toyota initiated Thursday’s recall and will noritfy owers of the involved vehicles in mid-February. The company will replace the left and right front suspension.

Industry wide, an estimated 10. 8 million vehicles were recalled last year, compared with 17.9 in 2005. The record year was 2004 with 30.8 million.
